Gas Nitriding is a thermochemical heat treatment process in which nitrogen is diffused into the surface of specially selected steels at controlled temperatures. During the process, components are exposed to an ammonia-based atmosphere inside a nitriding furnace. Nitrogen atoms penetrate the steel surface and form a hard nitrided layer that significantly improves wear resistance, fatigue performance and surface hardness.

Unlike conventional case hardening processes that require quenching, Gas Nitriding is generally performed without rapid cooling. This minimizes dimensional distortion and makes the process highly suitable for precision-engineered components with tight tolerances.
